Dr. Melanie Doherty

Rufus K. and Jane Mulkey Green Professor of English

Dr. Melanie Doherty is the Rufus K. and Jane Mulkey Green Professor of English at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. She holds a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA (2010). She teaches writing and literature courses focused on racial and gender equity, digital culture, and climate justice. Since 2012, Dr. Doherty has worked in partnership with the Interactivity Foundation, a non-profit organization that develops collaborative dialogue techniques to help people participate in complex, ongoing matters of public policy, such as the climate crisis, mass incarceration, and education reform. She has participated in the CIC’s 2018 Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts Institute; the 2018 meeting of the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation; the CIC’s 2021 Deliberation and Debate Workshop; and the AAC&U’s 2022 Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Student Success. She is also the Faculty Coordinator of Wesleyan’s team-taught First Year Experience course, and she was previously Wesleyan’s Director of Writing from 2008-2022.
