The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) has drawn on participants in the Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts Institutes and finalists in the Legacies of American Slavery network, who have already exhibited a commitment to racial equity on campus and in their communities and who have demonstrated effective, mutually beneficial community engagement. CIC also considered participants in CIC’s Humanities Research for the Public Good program, in which institutional teams partner with community organizations—such as museums, libraries, and houses of worship—to foster undergraduate research on topics of regional interest and share the results with their local communities. CIC has identified four participating colleges: Concordia College, Connecticut College, Wesleyan College, and Wofford College.
